Slugs are mass. Pounds are force. A mass of one slug has a weight of 32.2
pounds (given nominal earth gravitational acceleration of 32.2 ft/sec^2)
There's also the Pound,Mass (lbm) which is a mass that weighs 1 pound.
Not so unusual, though. That 1 kg mass weighs 9.8 N, after all.
