Are you trying to build something you can't buy or is this just to see
if you can. The timing antana you can buy on eBay use a helix
antenna in a dome and then place the preamp directly under the helix.
I doubt there is much room for improvement unless you are trying to
do something very different.
Try Googling "diy gps antenna" (no quotes) and you will get many hits
with articles about people who have built GPS antennas all kinds of
different designs
Don't forget abut GLONOSS. I think any future receivers are likely to
be dual GPS/GLONOSS
