Yes indeed the supply can be a problem.
They do seem to fail over the years.
I lost one of the brick converters. It was easily replaced with a
reasonable alternate.
Also there is essentially a preregulator that can have issues. None of this
terribly hard to fix or get around. Especially if you do not intend to run
it on a single battery supply.
