Of course, it can be a good vice in some circumstances if it means pushing the boundaries of science or engineering.

No sense of cleaning the board with standard flux cleaner, EPA etc?

I have a sense that (like sculpture conservationists) we're sometimes more fussy than the original artists/designers were...
