What are your thoughts on what the right price is for a Solartron 7071?
I's a long time since I saw any of these changing hands.

Cheers, David

One was sold on epay some weeks ago for 1.5kUSD, so it's more of a
question what it is worth for you. It's rather slow is limited voltmeter
by today standards for which you'll need to spend additional $200-400
for special connectors/cables unless you want to modify it to
traditional binding posts.

David, Illya: https://www.ab-precision.de/products/cables-accessories/. I
posted on this source before, but cables for this particular meter at
AB-Precision are about 230/275 Euro (w/ or w/out VAT). I'd factor these in,
and their cost, when evaluating the meter.

If you want to make your own leads, you can get Chinese copies of the Fischer S104-A053-130+ connector on Aliexpress, for details please see:
https://groups.io/g/Solartron_Schlumberger_Equipment/topic/103448605

So, it's not the cost hurdle it was when you could only buy them form Fischer (with a large MOV).

The link in the link above doesn't go anywhere for me - probably just a
matter of updating it to some new address.

Note AB-Precision also sells kits of those for about 100 Euro less.

Hello David,

The question is, are these connectors the same in performance? You have
a 7.5 digit multimeter and if you use wrong connectors and cables it can
make that 7th digit useless.

If the 7th digit is useless does it make sense to buy your 750 GBP +
shipping + taxes or I can buy for the same amount 3 pieces 34401A or
Keithley 2000. Prices for those 6.5 digit multimeters are around 300-350
EUR now.

There is a reason why Solartron used that connector, they could have
also fit 4mm banana posts but they didn't...

My 2 cents...

Regards,
Razvan

I have no personal experience of them - all my home-made leads were made
with Fischer connectors rather than clones, as at the time I don't believe
you could get Chinesium copies.  I think they have PEEK insulation as does
the Fischer version.  I don't think Solartron specified a PTFE special
version.

No-one on the Solartron-Schlumberger group has indicated any issues with
them.

If the 7th digit is useless does it make sense to buy your 750 GBP + shipping + taxes or I can buy for the same amount 3 pieces 34401A or Keithley 2000. Prices for those 6.5 digit multimeters are around 300-350 EUR now. There is a reason why Solartron used that connector, they could have also fit 4mm banana posts but they didn't... My 2 cents... I have a couple of leads, original Solartron.
Sorry, I'm not parting with them (I have a 7061) but I can photograph them.
However I'd imagine the connectors are identical to David's.

I have no personal experience of them - all my home-made leads were made
with Fischer connectors rather than clones, as at the time I don't believe
you could get Chinesium copies.  I think they have PEEK insulation as does
the Fischer version.  I don't think Solartron specified a PTFE special
version.

No-one on the Solartron-Schlumberger group has indicated any issues with
them.

Hello David,

The question is, are these connectors the same in performance? You have a
7.5 digit multimeter and if you use wrong connectors and cables it can make
that 7th digit useless.

If the 7th digit is useless does it make sense to buy your 750 GBP +
shipping + taxes or I can buy for the same amount 3 pieces 34401A or
Keithley 2000. Prices for those 6.5 digit multimeters are around 300-350
EUR
now.

There is a reason why Solartron used that connector, they could have also
fit 4mm banana posts but they didn't...

My 2 cents...

Regards,
Razvan

So, it's not the cost hurdle it was when you could only buy them form

Fischer (with a large MOV).
