Tom N8ZM - What’s the model number of your portable analyzer? What have you seen them sell for on the used market?

Yes, the DG8SAQ VNA has decent specs. There was a reference that the software works with a Windows 8.1 Bing Tablet (about $100), giving portability.
For a VNA requiring USB for power and a pc display - I currently have an iMac on my desk, an iPad, and starting to play with the Raspberry Pi 3.

Of course the ideal would be to get a VNA that has an internal display. The KC 901H/E/S Antenna Analyzer (1hz ~ 3ghz) may be a possibility…somewhat pricey.

Hi all,

Here’s a VNA for checking antennas etc beyond MFJ’s analyzer…and it’s cheaper.

It’s a two port VNA with a frequency range of 137MHz to 3.5GHz for about $210.
…It plugs directly into USB for power, and uses a computer for display.

Do you know of other VNAs options to look at…below the $3,000 and up models?

HI Joe...

It is an Agilent (now Keysight) N4419A Field Fox. IF you go to Keysight.com you can look up the whole Field Fox line and get an idea of what they cost new. I've not looked at the used market so cannot comment on that, but you might check eBay. Keep in mind that the base unit will be just an Cable and Antenna tester, performing tests like distance to Fault and SWR vs Frequency, which are the things we do the most. Adding a Spectrum Analyzer and Network Analyzer capability will drive the cost up substantially.

Ed has some experience with the Rig Expert analyzers, which are self-contained and much less expensive, although the display is rather small. It is not, however, a VNA.
