[time-nuts] Cell Phone time ?

FWIW

I seem to remember when I went on USA trips that my phone at the time, a
Nokia Tri-Band (can't remember model), would always set itself automatically
to the local US time. When I got back to the UK I had to set it back again
manually.

If the base-stations time is off, then the mobiles will too, as it is the
base
stations that announces the time. The operator should have their
base-stations
time adjusted it seems.

GSM base stations does not need as tight time as CDMA, so there is certainly
a
reason for why GSM did not start out with timing announcements from the
start.
