Hello The Net:

Consider the: http://www.mpja.com/prodinfo.asp?number=16693+PS

A cost and time efficient solution.

+5 dc to 3A, +12 Vdc to 2A, -12 Vdc to 0.3A

May solve your needs to power up an OEM version of the Trimble Thunderbolt.

I used a ELPAC model OS40-303, from the same source, about 1 year ago.
ELPACs are available from many sources.

With some switched mode power supplies, you may need to provide a
constant resistive load
at a few percent of rated current, to keep the voltage in regulation.
