Er... not so modern, but... I wrote a Life program in Z80 assembler 
to exercise the emulator on an HP 64000A development system... it was 
in 1981 :-)

Life was ideated by J.H. Conway in 1970. See

(to me) as it was 27 years ago. Sorry for the OT!
