Or, as it was explained to me, the magnetic field causes the holder to move, which puts a mechanical stress on the crystal, which changes the frequency.

And an AC field can induce a voltage in a loop (i.e. The wires going to the crystal), which then moves the crystal, etc.

Limitless things to worry about in extreme time-nuttery...

this sensitivity. While I didn't try to actually measure the change, I would
estimate it at almost 1e-8. I will try to use a strong magnet nearby to see
if the effects are the same. I won't get it too close. I am quite familiar
with the effects of magnets on perminvarferrites.
