John,

got the Trimble working by a RS422-RS232 fudge.
Connections on the DB25 connector are the same as the HP Z3801A (see
manual).
First make a DB25(M) – DB9(F) converter
Use TxD (A) (-) DB25(M) pin 2	connect to DP9(F) pin 2
	RxD (A) (-) DB25(M) pin 3 connect to DP9(F) pin 3
	RxD (B) (+) DB25(M) pin 16 connect to DB25(M) pin 7 (Sig Gnd) and
DP9(F) pin 5

This is OK for a short (few metres) connection otherwise I guess RS422
all the way with a converter on the end is the "proper" solution.

Connect a DB9 lead to your PC serial port.
Make sure GPS antenna has a good view of the sky - indoors by a window
only picked up 1 satellite

Run Tboltmon.exe

Set your location (from another GPS) as "accurate".
Give it 15-30mins to lock.
Then set location as "approximate" and let it find its own location.
