Well it depends on your required crimping quality and certification needs.
If you were to fly the connector, then you need the prescribed tools. If
you want to fire up some old oscillator in your own basement, it "only"
needs to work. The RG58 versions of the coax insert worked great with a
cheap crimping tool. You might want to be careful once you are ready to
insert the coax into the connector body - once its mounted - its hard to
remove without the special tool.
