Visualize the size of the landfill for all the scrapped GPSs. I have my doubts any retrofit scheme is going to fly. If the bandwidth is sufficient, it would be far cheaper to scrap one of the satellite radio bands, probably Sirius since XM has more satellites in orbit and they are more powerful than the old Sirius birds.
