Paul,

The NI GPIB-232CV-A is a simple serial-GPIB converter. The CT-A
version is a full controller. I have used my CV-A with a terminal
program just fine.

As for rabid interest because it says NI on it, I got mine for $50
shipped, which I thought wasn't a bad price.
