If you have a very good location for the antenna then RF absorbing material
is not going to help because there will be nothing to apply it to.  I think
in most cases money is best spent on some 1 inch iron pipe so that anything
that is reflective is below the antenna's horizon.

So your before/after results would depend of just how poor the antenna
location has

I used a 1" pipe with a pipe flange screwed to the top end.  I mounted the
antenna to the flange using four stainless steel bolts and ran the coax
cable inside the pipe.  The pipe perforates the roof so the cable has a
very short and direct run.
