The main reason for Heliax is the lower loss and longer runs.  But it might
also last longer becuase water can't wick down a solid shield like it can a
braided shield.  But aren't GPS antennas designed with the connector on
their bottom so you run the coax cable down the pipe.   Any coax inside a
waterproof metal pipe should last nearly forever.

My antenna is typical of most, I think,  The N type connector lives inside
the mounting flange so it never sees rain or sun.  But even if it did the
expected life of "normal" RG8 cable laying on a roof top is 20 to 25 years.
