  I very much doubt that the absolute position has any effect. Otherwise I would expect to see "This Side Up and an arrow marked "North" on the casing. There are none on my samples. Any acceleration will cause phase shift but you say that you will be adding circuitry, so I guess it will be powered off for and so you will not see that. You are more like likely to see some effect from the power cycle than anything else. If you have a measuring  instrument available it would be nice to take some data before and after the operation and report back what you see.
