As short as the consumer can take. Because a long pulse means that
you are wasting energy and heating up both the pulse generator
and the consumer. As TvB wrote, it varies from a few µs to a few ms.
It is upon moral qualities that a society is ultimately founded. All
the prosperity and technological sophistication in the world is of no
use without that foundation.
