It's all about L and C  that creates the delay - propagation constant is 
proportional to 1/sqrt(L*C), Z is sqrt(L/C)

So you see those funky delay line coaxes with Z=1000 ohms - a spiral 
center conductor(with a magnetic core) jacks up the L.
