Incidentally its said tha Q Mallory pioneered the use of whispering gallery based timing references, using an old TV delay line in its
own temperature controlled oven as an absolute reference to lock on to existing signals.
It worked better and used less power than a double oven OCXO but had its own problems notably sensitivity to vibration and not running properly in strong acoustic fields. 
Mallory later worked out how to solve this by adding a chip based 3 axis accelerometer then replacing the module entirely with 
a Cs module recovered from a mobile phone base station.
