[time-nuts] Good clean-up oscillators

Hi Magnus

The loop filter frequency of the AXPLO10 design can be set below 1 Hz (in the range of 200~300 mHz).
If the reference is not terribly poor, only the phase noise for offsets below 2 Hz is affected. Assuming
a reference input with -90 dBc/Hz @ 1 Hz and -120 dBc/Hz @ 10 Hz we achieve the following clean-up
performance:

(1) AXPLO10 "Standard performance" - Free running -105 dBc/Hz @ 1 Hz and -135 dBc/Hz @ 10 Hz -> Locked <-102 dBc/Hz @ 1 Hz
(2) AXPLO10 "ULN option"                     - Free running -110 dBc/Hz @ 1 Hz and -140 dBc/Hz @ 10 Hz -> Locked <-107 dBc/Hz @ 1 Hz

For a poor reference with -80 dBc/Hz @ 1 Hz and -110 dBc/Hz @ 10 Hz the ULN, model would still achieve <-100 dBc/Hz @ 1 Hz.

BTW: We do have other clean-up OCXO with better performance, but their price is beyond the budget which most of the time-nut would be ready to spend.
To give a flavor what we can achieve with one of our best models, I am attaching a phase noise plot.
Best regards
Bernd

Hi Bernd,

Thanks for the pointer, it may become handy.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of phase noise would it typically have and what PLL bandwidth?

I see (and already kind of knew) that you have some good oscillators, when it comes to phase-noise, but not too much is disclosed about the PLL module. I know the milage will vary with the reference signal, so hence the PLL bandwidth question.

Cheers,
Magnus
