Having spent a lot of time âwatchingâ a 5071A â¦..
The status stuff is great and it does tell you a lot. Unfortunately, it does not really
tell you / alarm on everything that could possibly be wrong or go wrong. Our
experience was that you really need to track it against something else (at least
from time to time) to be sure all is well.
One example:
As the tube wears out, the short term stability degrades. At some point it may it
will go past the spec limits. Typically it can do this without any obvious change
in the status ( and no alarms â¦.).
Beam current will give you some idea of whatâs going on, but how much is âenoughâ
for this or that level of performance? Not at all clear. Still, itâs probably the one thing
Iâd log on some sort of regular basis.
