HI all -- I first sent the 3458 to Loveland after replacing the obviously bad display board. They noticed some errata that appeared to be related to the A5 ROMs -- those were date-coded '91. I had them send it back and ordered the A5 upgrade kit (it's a smaller board with a longer cable), and replaced it, then returned the unit Loveland for cal. I don't know the life expectancy of the "Snap-Cap" batteries on the new ROMs, and I have a hard time understanding why they didn't upgrade to non-volatile parts....

The repair parts for the 3458 go in and out of stock, and if they don't have the parts, then the Agilent site won't let you order them. I had no trouble at all. If the site gives you problems, just call Agilent -- I have always found them to be very helpful. For example, I didn't know if I needed only the A5 upgrade board or the kit -- the nice lady on the phone transferred me to one of the techs who told me I needed the kit which has the longer cable.
