Indeed. In similar sense, you can't optimize it within its own system as
you become somewhat blind, even if some properties may indirectly be
inferred. An external reference is needed and measurements needs to be
done against that, either for the inputs noises or the result,
preferably both.

We can infer quite a bit from a number of scenarios, but we end up
having difficulty to pin-point the optimum with only the system itself.

For some reason, you need to measure and learn over and over.
